Monarch Awards Foundation

Monarch Awards Foundation, Inc. is a 501©(3) not-for-profit foundation of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Xi Nu Omega Chapter. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., the oldest Greek-letter organization established by Black college women in America, was formed in 1908 by nine Howard University students. It soon became America’s premier organization for college-educated women, focusing on academic excellence and community service. The international sorority has grown to over 900 chapters, both undergraduate and alumnae. Chartered as a graduate chapter on July 9, 1982, Xi Nu Omega established Monarch Awards Foundation in 1988.
The foundation is pleased to offer a scholarship, of up to $3,000, to a student currently attending an Illinois College or University.

To be considered, the applicant must meet the following criteria:
• Must have obtained at least a Second Semester Freshman status at an accredited four-year Illinois College or
University and be working toward a first Bachelor’s degree

• Must show proof of graduation from a Chicago Metropolitan Area high school (Chicago Metropolitan Area is
defined by the Chicago-land Chamber of Commerce as Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will counties)
and planning to attend an accredited four-year college or university in the summer or fall of 2019

• Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

• Must show proof of enrollment in an accredited Illinois four-year college or university before the scholarship
is awarded

• Must submit the following by March 31, 2019
o Completed application form (electronic or paper submission allowed)
o Two (2) copies of typed essay on given topic (electronic or paper submission allowed)
o Two (2) letters of recommendation dated within 3 months of application submission. One letter
must come from someone in academia, while the second letter can be written by civic or religious
persons. (paper or emailed directly from author to scholarships@monarchawardsfoundation.org

o Official school transcript (If submitted by paper, it must be in a sealed envelope from the school, or
have a raised seal on the paper transcript. Official electronic submissions may be submitted directly
from services such as Parchment or the likeliness, and emailed directly to
scholarships@monarchawardsfoundation.org.)

All applications and supporting materials must be either uploaded electronically via the application
at www.MonarchAwardsFoundation.org or postmarked no later than March 31, 2019.
