Okun, Oddo & Babat PC Scholarship

At Okun, Oddo & Babat, we’re proud to serve communities throughout New York and provide essential legal counseling services for those in need. Our team of attorneys have branched out into many practice areas; from criminal defense to personal injury civil suits, we know that New Yorkers engage with a variety of civil services on a regular basis. We also know that the criminal justice system doesn’t always serve the people like it should, and for this reason, we’ve built our firm around advocating for victims and defending the rights of law-abiding citizens.

We believe that the criminal justice system can always be improved. When our community welcomes new voices and new ideas, we can all benefit from this collective creativity. For this reason, we’re turning to students in our community who want to make a difference in the system. We are proud to offer a $1,000 scholarship to one student who is pursuing a higher education and who shares the core beliefs of our firm.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria
This scholarship is offered to any student currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or accredited community college program in the United States. First-year college students who are high school graduates (or possess a GED) are welcome to apply.
Funds from this scholarship may be applied to tuition, books, and other fees directly related to the school at which the candidate is enrolled.

The candidate must be able to show proof of admission or attendance (e.g., a transcript or acceptance letter) at an accredited educational program, as stated above.
The scholarship candidate must be in good academic standing, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.

Application Requirements
Please submit the following documents in order to be considered:

• An updated resumé or C.V.
• A current unofficial transcript from the candidate’s college. Incoming first-year college students may submit a current unofficial transcript from their high school and a copy of their college acceptance letter (PDF file format is preferred).
• A brief essay response (1000 words maximum) addressing the following:
  Describe one or more ways that our current criminal justice system can better serve its people. If you were in charge of the system, what changes would you make, and why? As a student and citizen, how might you empower your peers, neighbors, and local politicians to enact real changes that benefit your community?

Application Instructions
In order to be eligible, scholarship candidates must submit their FULL application (written essay, transcript, and resumé) via email. The application deadline is 08/1/2019. Applications missing any of the required materials following this deadline will not be considered. Please contact us immediately via email if you believe any of your materials have not been delivered.

The scholarship recipient will be announced 09/2019.
