Veteran Hero Scholarship

We want to honor your service—and reward it.
As a member of the U.S. military, you prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice. We can’t thank you enough for all you’ve done. But helping you pay for college is a start.

To apply for our $5,000 Veteran Hero Scholarship, first create a Course Hero account, then write a 500-word essay on “What do you wish the American people better understood about military service or military families?” If you’ve won, we’ll email you by August 3, 2020, 11:59 PM PST. The scholarship money will then be sent directly to your school and applied to your tuition.

Eligibility
Must be a retired, honorably discharged or active duty service member of the U.S. military or have a family member of such service
Currently enrolled full-time or part-time in a two-year or four-year accredited undergraduate or graduate college or university, as listed on the U.S. Department of Education website
Are at least 16 years old
Have at least a 3.0 GPA
Please note: Nontraditional students are encouraged to apply
Selection criteria
One or more judges from Course Hero will read all eligible contest entries and select the scholarship recipients. The judge(s) will base their decision on your sincerity, creativity, thoughtfulness, and factual credibility, as well as your response to the following essay question: “What do you wish the American people better understood about military service or military families?”
Odds of winning depend on the number of entries and the quality of your response, as determined by the judge(s)
Required documents
Copy of your school or state photo ID (we use this only to verify your identity so we can award you the scholarship)
Your year in school
Your student ID number (please indicate whether this is a high school or college ID number)
A high-def photo (we may use your photo and bio to feature you on our website and social media platforms)
Short bio (2—5 sentences), including your hometown, school, major (if you have one), and plans for the future. (What would you like people to know about you?)
Your mailing address and T-shirt size (for some Course Hero swag!)

GPA verification
