Smr-Internship Plus Program
Each quarter, the Internship Plus program supports DePaul University undergraduate students who are working in a quarter-long, unpaid internship, by awarding up to $2,500 in financial assistance to eligible students.
To be eligible to receive this award, students must:
● Be a current undergraduate student, enrolled full time. Applicants must be returning to the college after the completion of the internship, i.e. a rising sophomore, junior, or senior. Students graduating at the end of the quarter for which they are applying are not eligible.
● Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 out of 4.0.
● Be working in an unpaid internship, recording a minimum of 80 hours over the course of the 10-week term. An applicant cannot use multiple internship offers to meet the duration and hourly requirements.
● Neither receive any other scholarships or awards for this unpaid internship opportunity nor have received Internship Plus funding previously.
● Demonstrate an understanding of your internship role and organization, articulating the value of this internship experience within your application
● Demonstrate financial need and can provide a breakdown of costs associated with working an unpaid internship.
Students can still apply if they haven’t committed to an unpaid internship yet. Please note that applicants with fully confirmed internships will be prioritized over those with internships still being developed. Summer internships must be obtained, prior to the Summer Term beginning, to allow time to begin the internship within the dates of the award quarter.
To apply for this scholarship, you must answer the following questions completely in short-essay format. A large part of our assessment will focus on how this internship will impact your professional and career development and what you hope to learn in your internship in relation to your major or field of interest, career exploration, and/or skill development. Your responses must be well thought out with attention to detail.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the Career Center at internships@depaul.edu
How will the Selection Committee prioritize applications received?
● Fully confirmed internships will be prioritized over those still being developed. We will accept applications for internships still in the development stage, and scholarships may be awarded contingently to students whose internship is still in development, but funds will not be disbursed until confirmation of placement has been submitted.
● Students at later stages of their college careers as well as those with no prior internship experience will receive preference.
● Potential impact of the internship on your studies and career:
○ All internships are valuable, but we aim to fund those most likely to give you the opportunity to apply and build your skills in a way that will help you on your academic and career pathway.
○ Applications that have clear and compelling goals for skill development and experiential learning will receive preference.
● Applications that provide clear, specific, and thoughtful explanation of financial need and a clear breakdown of how the award will be utilized will receive preference.
