Angel Butron, Sr. and Nancy Rick-Janis Endowed Scholarship
Angel Butron Sr., father of School of Nursing clinical assistant professor Angel S. Butron tragically lost his life on May 23, 2020, after fighting COVID-19 for five weeks. He was an extraordinary man who created the American dream for his family and future generations. He spent his life working tirelessly to help lift others with the vision that his family could achieve higher success without making the sacrifices he did. Mr. Butron worked at Tootsie Roll Industries for 52 years and worked up until the day he became severely symptomatic with COVID-19.
Mr. Butron was a father figure to many people in Chicago and throughout Mexico. He was a loyal, kind and joyous man who would generously give all he could to help his friends and family in any way possible. Mr. Butron believed education was incredibly valuable and supported his wife, three children, and nephews through college. He lived vicariously through their successes and achievements and was their biggest cheerleader.

The Angel Butron, Sr. and Nancy Rick-Janis Endowed Scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to students enrolled in the College of Nursing who are in good academic standing and have financial need.
