Charles Melvoin
Charles Melvoin Endowed Scholarship
Charles Melvoin (JD ’29) was an accountancy faculty member and longtime supporter of DePaul University. A founding partner of the Chicago-based CPA firm Altschuler, Melvoin and Glasser LLP, Melvoin possessed a strong interest in the School of Accountancy and MIS, as well as in the continued improvement of the accounting profession and education. He was a founding faculty member of the school’s CPA review program, and was instrumental in revising the review’s coverage and teaching methods. His educational concerns reflected those of his practice: innovation, clarity of thought and writing, and an overriding concern for the ethics of the profession. In 1977, Melvoin received the first Ledger & Quill Award of Merit for his distinguished contributions to the accounting profession and became the organization’s first honorary member. In 1988, Melvoin and his wife established the Charles Melvoin Endowed Scholarship, a merit-based scholarship for accounting students. Melvoin was 90 years old when he passed away in 1992; however, his passion and generosity has lived on through the many outstanding Melvoin scholars.
