Ida & Edward Cohan Endowed Scholarship
Majorie K. Cohan (JD ’67) created the Ida & Edward Cohan Endowed Scholarship because she wanted to do something for the DePaul University College of Law that would inspire generations to come. This scholarship was named in memory of her parents Ida and Edward to support DePaul law students.
After earning her JD from DePaul, Cohan moved west to practice law. She was an administrative law judge in Arizona, then became an administrative law judge for the Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board in California. She was highly respected and known to be tough yet fair. Cohan was well-regarded for her knowledge of the law.
Born in 1922 and raised in Chicago, Cohan attended Von Steuben High School. While attending law school at DePaul, she owned a pharmacy where she also worked. Cohan was a smart, just, honest, and honorable person with a keen sense of and right and wrong. These characteristics caused her frustration with those who did not abide by the law. As a result, Cohan decided to attend law school. She was fond of her time at DePaul and grateful for her education.
Cohan was a great cook and gardener, dedicated to her mother and loved to travel. In August of 2003, she passed away. Cohan’s legacy continues to enrich the lives of many seeking a DePaul College of Law education.
