Michael Flynn Hie
Michael Flynn Hie Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Michael was a young man entering his senior year at DePaul when he was tragically killed on a Sunday morning on his way to work. He had just turned 21. Born and raised in Chicago, Michael was the fourth of five children born to Mary and John Hie, DePaul ’56.
Michael thoroughly enjoyed his college experience, especially his involvement with DePaul’s athletics. He worked in the department’s office, managed one of the women’s teams, and was often the “Blue Demon” at basketball games.
As a result of his great experience in athletics and at the university, DePaul named an endowed scholarship in honor of Michael. It is targeted for managers of a women’s sports team.
The success of this scholarship has given many young people from all different backgrounds the opportunity to attend college. Michael would be happy knowing that the scholarship will provide financial assistance to future students of the institution that he loved.
