Shivam Chokshi Endowed Memorial Scholarship in Finance

This scholarship is named in memory of DePaul University student Shivam Chetan Chokshi, who died suddenly and unexpectedly of Lymphocytic Myocarditis in 2018.

Born on January 25, 1997, Shivam was an energetic and funny child. As a high school student he cultivated his energy into becoming a disciplined student and serious athlete, playing on both the football team and wrestling team. Throughout high school he also dedicated time to the Boy Scouts of America and held a part-time job. His efforts were recognized and he graduated high school with high honors, and ultimately enrolled in DePaul.

At DePaul University, Shivam continued to excel. He majored in Finance and Accountancy, and quickly became a leader in the community. He was a mentor with the EDGE program, an Orientation Leader, and a Chicago Quarter mentor. He had a plan to graduate a semester early, and he secured an internship at an investment bank that led to a full-time offer.

But on July 25, 2018, Shivam suffered a seizure while at his internship office. He died on the way to the hospital after a co-worker called 911. An autopsy confirmed that his cause of death was an undiagnosed, rare condition, Lymphocytic Myocarditis. The Chokshi family established the Shivam Chokshi Endowed Memorial Scholarship in Finance to honor Shivam’s memory, and to continue his legacy of leadership at DePaul.

Shivam often referenced Eleanor Roosevelt’s quote, “Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.” He had the biggest dreams and hoped to build a school in India where children who cannot afford to pay for school can still get an education. His family hopes to fulfill that dream one day.
