From Tom:
“I created the Thomas Weber Family Scholarship for two reasons – to support DePaul and honor my parents.
I would not be where I am professionally and personally without the education I received at DePaul…both the professional side and the personal/inter-personal side.
From a family point-of-view, I had two major life events in 2011– my father passed away in March and my children graduated from high school and began college. Both made me think about legacy – the legacy of my parents and the legacy I wanted to leave.
My parents both endured a terribly difficult early life – they lived through the Great Depression and World War II in Poland. After the war they came as refugees into West Germany and ultimately immigrated to the United States during the 1950s with virtually nothing materially. My parents worked so hard to provide for me and to help me get through DePaul. Because of their efforts, I was able to get a great education, launch my career and provide my own children with financial support in their educational endeavors.
This scholarship allows me to give a worthy student who does not have the financial means the same opportunity that my parents gave to me.”
