Rev. Laurence Coyne Prendergast Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Awarded, along with a medal, to an undergraduate student that writes the best essay on Catholicism as determined by the scholarship committee within the Department of Catholic Studies. The essay should be substantive and academic in nature.
The Department of Catholic Studies invites DePaul undergraduates of any major to submit substantive essays on Catholic topics, either written for competition or for courses taken between October 1, 2022 and November 19, 2023. Papers from all disciplines and intellectual traditions are welcome. The best papers will demonstrate an accurate and insightful understanding of Catholic Tradition and/or experience on specific topics. In additional to the medal and financial award, the selected essay will be published in Creating Knowledge, a journal of undergraduate scholarship and creative activity published by the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.
The second and third place essay selections will be provided to the Department Chair for an invitation to present on the student panel at the World Catholicism conference in spring; submitting an essay for review is certification from the student that this is an allowable transfer of information.
