*About The Egan Office:
The Egan Office believes that schools are important community institutions that can contribute to and benefit from an asset-based approach to community building and development. The Egan Office Urban Schools Initiative (USI) is a community service program that allows DePaul University students to serve in Chicago’s most under-resourced schools providing direct service such as classroom assistance, tutoring, mentoring, special projects, and supplemental enrichment activities. In the tradition of Monsignor John J. Egan, USI scholars learn about issues that impact communities and engage directly in, planning, programming, and collaboratory research aimed at addressing critical urban problems promoting transformative change and social justice.

The Urban School Initiatives Student Success Coaches (SSC) are placed in PreK-12 schools in under-resourced Chicago communities. Scholars may support the school in different capacities such as classroom, recess, after-school, or administrative assistance.
They support the School Community Organizer (SCO) in the planning, development, and implementation of three school projects per year, one per quarter. These projects are led by the SCO and supported by the Student Success Coaches. The projects are a team contribution to the school, families, and/or community. Additionally, SSC’s may contribute to the planning, development and implementation of special enrichment activities such as science fairs, debate club, chess club, soccer teams, Spanish language instruction, dance classes, or other activities. Student Success Coaches must have excellent attendance, a willingness to travel using public transportation or own vehicle, and must commit to serve in their assigned school for at least one academic year (three DePaul quarters excluding summer term).

• Support the School Community Organizer (SCO) in the planning, development, and implementation of three school projects per year, one per quarter. These projects are led by the SCO and
  supported by the Student Success Coaches. The projects are a team contribution to the school, families, and/or community.
• Ensure excellent in-person school assistance such as after-school, recess support, mentoring, family engagement, or tutoring.
• Provide 8-10 hours per week in school service.
• Complete a maximum of 11 hours a week combined with team meetings and professional development during 8 to 9 weeks of the fall, winter and spring terms. No final weeks, summer.
• Attend and actively participate in mandatory monthly in-person, two hour professional development. Ensure the schedule does not conflict with these events.
• Participate in mandatory, regular meetings with the School Community Organizer and team.
• Maintain strong communication.
• Participate in Egan Office related activities such as Chicago as a Mosaic and Council of Elders.
• Adhere to all policies and procedures as determined by DePaul University, The Egan Office and the Steans Center, and the assigned school(s).Complete all onboarding and compliance documents
  from Egan and Steans Center within 30 days of acceptance.
• Complete assigned reflections and evaluations in a timely fashion.
• Review announcements and be active in the Urban Schools Initiative D2L page.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to mandated policies and procedures regarding child neglect and abuse.
• Share my gifts and talents with the Egan Office.
• Other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
*As an Egan Office Service Scholar you must:

• Be willing to commit to 8-11 hours per week for the entire school year (fall, winter, spring) including work at your assigned school, team meeting, professional development and training.
• Eligible for federal financial aid or DACAmented and Undocumented students are eligible and encouraged to apply!
• Be a full- or part-time DePaul University student,18 years or older.
• Be willing to provide your own transportation or use public transportation to your assigned school (off campus).
• Complete a TB test.
• Complete child protection/child abuse reporting training.
• Complete CPS Volunteer form in CPS portal (if assigned to a public school).
• Complete a virtual Catholic Schools Virtus Training and proper documentation (if assigned to a Catholic school).
• Be flexible in supporting young students in public schools with limited resources.
• Have a positive enthusiastic attitude as a role model for young children, youth and community members.
• Be open to learning new perspectives about education, activism, community-building and social justice.
• Be able and willing to collaborate and learn from people of diverse backgrounds.
• Be independent and as a team member.
• Be punctual with an excellent attendance record.
• Have strong organizational skills as well as written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
• Previous experience with community engagement, children and youth preferred.
• Bilingual is a plus but is not required*
