Ellin M. Kelly Internship in Special Collections and Archives
The Ellin M. Kelly Scholarship supports an undergraduate internship experience in the Special Collections and Archives (SPCA) department of the Richardson Library on the Lincoln Park campus. The purpose of the internship is to expose students to the archives, library, and allied cultural heritage professions (GLAM – stands for galleries, libraries, archives and museums) through readings, trainings, lectures, and events when applicable; and to provide opportunities for collaborative and individual work in DePaul’s Special Collections and Archives. Students will be expected to conduct informational interviews with archivists and/or librarians and will complete a portfolio of projects demonstrating their proficiency. Students will be required to write a reflection essay at the completion of their project and may be asked to speak about their experiences.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
The intern will work 10-12 hours per week, between the hours of 9 to 5, Monday through Friday (hours to be determined based on student schedule but will total 110 hours). In addition to general proficiency with student assistant-level work in SPCA, the Ellin M. Kelly Intern will also:
• Collaborate with the Public Services Archivist to select materials to match themes, events, topics, etc. for digital or physical exhibits.
• Assist the Instruction and Outreach Archivist in the preparation and delivery of an outreach or instruction session.
• Write 2-4 blog posts for the Library newsletter, The Full Text.
• Conduct personal reference use of one collection at another archival repository or special library and reflect on the experience.
• Participate in professional development and community events.
• Complete a portfolio and reflection essay, and write an acknowledgement to the donor.
