Egan Hope Scholarship Application
YOU MUST BE AN INCOMING FRESHMAN FOR THE 2025-2026 ACADEMIC YEAR TO APPLY FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP
The Egan Hope Scholarship is awarded to incoming traditional freshmen students. The Egan Hope Scholarship Program was initiated in 1992 to honor Monsignor John Egan on the 50th anniversary of his ordination into the priesthood and his lifetime of social activism and community service. The program was developed in response to a need for initiatives that would enable underrepresented students from Chicago to continue that work.
To be considered, you must prove residency within the City of Chicago, graduate from a City of Chicago high school, and demonstrate financial need. You must have an exceptional record of social activism, leadership, and community service. Recipients are required to commit to social activism, serve as a community leader, fulfill community service projects, and participate in events/programs determined by the Scholarship Coordinator in the Office of Multicultural Student Success, including sessions with staff for advising, mentoring, and assessment. Egan scholars must be available for OMSS workshops on Fridays from 3PM-5PM.
As financial need is a consideration, we strongly encourage you to file the FAFSA, if applicable. The FAFSA will be available in December 2024 at studentaid.gov.
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Graduating senior from a City of Chicago high school
- High school G.P.A. of 2.7 (*Your high school transcript is necessary in the decision-making process and will be provided by DePaul University’s Office of Admissions to review along with your application.)
- Admitted and enrolled as a full-time student at DePaul University
- Demonstrate leadership skills
- Demonstrate a commitment to social justice
- Satisfactory completion of essay questions
- Agree to participate as a S.T.A.R.S. peer mentee as a freshman
- First-generation college students are encouraged to apply
In an effort to provide support to our students at DePaul University, the Office of Multicultural Student Success is committed to providing academic assistance through our Scholarship Status Letters. In addition, by completing the application for this scholarship you are authorizing the Office of Multicultural Student Success and the scholarship foundations to review your financial and academic records to assess your application.
