The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel/DePaul University Immersive Summer Internship Program
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel/DePaul University Immersive Summer Internship Program offers a robust, full-time internship with one of the leading regional news organizations in the country. This is program has a history of success and offers a vibrant environment to learn and practice the craft. Selected interns will work for 12 weeks on news reporting in a supportive setting with award-winning journalists. Interns will receive personal support with editing and mentorship, developing strong relationships that lead to career coaching and recommendations for years to come. Throughout the internship, interns will participate in themed weekly discussions set up by the newsroom union, will be invited to the annual “Midsummer Day’s Training Session” hosted by editors, and will be invited all to staff meetings, training sessions, and social gatherings.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is owned by Gannett Co., the largest newspaper publisher in the United States. Milwaukee is the flagship of Gannett Wisconsin, which includes the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Appleton Post-Crescent and eight other news organizations in the central and eastern part of the state. The Journal Sentinel and its predecessors have won a combined eight Pulitzer Prizes. The staff has also won numerous national awards in multiple categories. Editors and reporters maintain connections around the country.
Additional Internship Details
- Pay is $15 per hour / $600 per week / $7,200 for a full 12 week over the summer of 2025
- Assignments are made with personal interests in mind
- Start and end dates are flexible, based on the intern’s schedule
- Allowances are made for time off to attend family/special events
- Interns will be part of a diverse cohort of students from top schools
Eligibility:
- Journalism majors, Communication and Media majors, and Journalism graduate students in good academic
- Minimum 2.5 GPA for undergraduate students; minimum 3.0 GPA for graduate students
Please Note: Complete the entire application, which includes an essay question and the submission of a resume and cover letter, unofficial transcript, and five reporting samples. Applications will be reviewed and final candidates will be selected to move on to review by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for internship consideration.
