Learning Beyond Borders: A Ling Scholarship
Requirements/Eligibility
Must be currently enrolled in a 4-year university, a 1–2 year Master’s program or high school students are also eligible.
Must be accepted into a study abroad or exchange program for any semester prior to or including Spring 2026 (before June 2026).
Open to all nationalities, GPAs, majors, and minors.
Must be planning to study abroad in any country (non-English-speaking countries preferred, but not required).
This scholarship is available for students pursuing language learning scholarships, foreign language scholarships, or scholarships for study abroad programs.
Application Process
Gather all required documents (Official Transcript and Study Abroad Program Acceptance Letter) in PDF format only.
Prepare your 3–5 minute video maximum.
Fill out the application form using the “Apply Now” button.
Upload your video or paste the shareable link into the form.
Submit your application by December 31, 2025, and wait for our response via email.
Video Submission Guidelines
Remember that your personal statement should not only answer the prompts, but should showcase your personality. Our previous winners were chosen due to their statements being personable and creative over formal.
Step 1: Introduce Yourself
Please include the following information:
Your first name
Your college/university
The study abroad or exchange program you’ve joined or been accepted into the languages you speak
Step 2: Answer the Main Question
What cultural or language barrier do you think you might face while studying abroad, and how are you preparing for it?
Step 3: Choose and Answer one of the Following Prompts

Teach us a phrase in your target language and tell us why it matters to you. Make it personal, funny, or heartfelt.
What’s something about your native language you wish more people knew? Explore grammar quirks, cultural idioms, or beautiful sayings.
Take us behind the scenes of how you practice your target language daily. Morning routines, sticky notes, playlists show us what works.
Walk us through your favorite way to practice speaking your target language. Bonus if you mention any tools or apps you love using! 😉 (We love seeing Ling in action!)
What’s one thing you wish more language apps or teachers focused on? Share your honest frustrations or suggestions.
Have you ever felt lost, misunderstood, or out of place while using a different language? What did that experience teach you? A moment of discomfort or growth that shows emotional resilience and reflection.
What do you hope to learn — not just academically — but culturally and personally from studying abroad? This is your chance to share your mindset and personal goals beyond academics.
Video Requirements
Minimum 1080p resolution, with clear audio and good lighting.
Video editing is encouraged, making it engaging and personal.
Be as creative as you’d like; feel free to use any editing software.
If your video is in a language other than English, please include English subtitles.
Accepted formats: MP4.
Orientation: Portrait or horizontal.
Upload your video to Google Drive or Dropbox, and ensure sharing is set to “Anyone with the link can view.” Example file name: VideoEssay_YourFullName.mp4.
