College of Education Graduate Assistant Application -Department of Teacher Education, Kinesiology, and Educational Studies (TEKES)

Graduate assistantships (GA) are fully in-person, on-campus opportunities for qualified students (Master’s and Doctoral) to work closely with College of Education (COE) faculty, staff, and students to support ongoing research efforts, operations of the college, to engage in ongoing conversations regarding educational issues and research with faculty, staff, and other student colleagues, and assist with other duties as assigned by their hiring unit.

The COE offers graduate assistantships, each of which provides up to a full, one academic year, tuition waiver of six graduate-level 4-credit hour courses required for the degree (excludes all fees) and an annual academic year stipend of up to $8,525.00. In addition, DePaul offers student health insurance and various types of leave. These benefits, in addition to comprehensive fees and u-pass fees, are not covered by the graduate assistantship.

You must apply separately to each department/program you are interested in working with. Graduate Assistant applicants are interviewed and appointed directly by each individual hiring area in the College of Education. Applicants are typically contacted for follow-up mid-May to mid-June. Official offers extended in August.

Please note that COE GA spots can be for full-time or part-time positions.
Typical full-time hours requirements are 20 hours/week Fall through Spring quarters, including student/course break periods when university offices are still open.
Typical part-time hours requirements are 10 hours/week Fall through Spring quarters, including student/course break periods when university offices are still open.

If you wish to know more about this position including quarterly hour requirements and remuneration, please communicate with the application contact for this posting as listed on the COE website: https://education.depaul.edu/student-resources/employment-career/Pages/student-employment.aspx

The Department of Teacher Education, Kinesiology, and Educational Studies (DTEKES) offers programs in teacher preparation (Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle Grades & Secondary Education, and Physical Education) and Exercise Science. The teacher preparation programs have undergraduate and graduate (master’s) options. There are two additional graduate programs—Education, Culture, and Society and Sport, Fitness, and Recreation Leadership. Graduate assistants support the approximately twenty full-time faculty in projects related to teaching (e.g., finding resources for courses) and research (e.g., literature reviews, assistance with manuscript preparation), as well as assist with the day-to-day operations of the department (e.g., answering phones, making photocopies).

The TEKES Department’s operating hours are typically Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Fridays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., during the academic year. Applicants interested in a TEKES GA position must be available to work until 6 p.m. a minimum one day per week, Monday through Thursday, and have weekday availability from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. a minimum of two additional days per week during the academic year.

TEKES GAs complete most of their required hours on an annual schedule, two set days in office per week, Monday through Friday (determined by department need). However, due to dates the university is closed (holidays and breaks), some hours may need to be scheduled on additional dates throughout the year to complete all hours requirements for the position (600 hours for full-time GAs, 300 hours for part-time GAs, September 2026-June 2027). Office schedule options will be discussed in more detail during the interview process and draft schedules can be provided at that time. The official AY26-27 TEKES office work schedule will be confirmed during the offer process.
