The goal of the Academic Success Center (ASC) in the College of Education is to provide students with academic support from entry into their program through licensure.
Graduate assistants support students in developing academic and professional skills necessary for success in their coursework, field experiences, and licensure exams. This includes helping students strengthen executive functioning skills such as project planning, organization, and time management; providing support with writing and lesson planning; and offering tutoring and workshops to help students prepare for Illinois licensure exams.
Graduate assistants are also responsible for assisting with administrative tasks related to ASC programming and student services. All graduate assistants must attend staff meetings and bi-weekly supervision meetings with the Director.
The position requires flexibility in working hours. Graduate assistants must be available to work evenings and Fridays. Although most student meetings take place online, graduate assistants are required to work on campus rather than remotely.

Responsibilities include researching and creating study guides for these exams, providing two workshops per exam each quarter, and offering individual tutoring to students throughout the academic year.
This graduate assistant also serves as a writing tutor for College of Education graduate students and English Language Learners (ELL), helping students improve academic writing and address common language challenges faced by non-native English speakers.

  • Posting announcements on social media

2. Learning Specialist

  • Coaching students during field experiences and student teaching
Previous classroom teaching experience is essential for this role.

In collaboration with the Director of Student Success, the Learning Specialist will serve as the liaison to the AUSL and ASSET residency programs.
