The Egan Hope Scholarship Application
YOU MUST BE A RISING SOPHOMORE FOR THE FALL 2020-2021 QUATER TO APPLY FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP*
Application deadline extended to May 10, 2020
The Egan Hope Scholarship Program was initiated in 1992 to honor Monsignor John Egan on the 50th anniversary of his ordination into the priesthood and his lifetime of social activism and community service. The program was developed in response to a need for initiatives that would enable inner-city students from Chicago to continue that work. To be considered, you must prove residency within the City of Chicago, be a graduate from a City of Chicago high school, and demonstrate financial need. You must have an exceptional record of social activism, leadership, and community service. Recipients are required to commit to social activism, serve as a community leader, fulfill community service projects, and participate in events determined by the Scholarship Coordinator in the Office of Multicultural Student Success, including sessions with staff for advising, mentoring, and assessment. Egan scholars must be available for OMSS workshops on Fridays from 3PM-5PM.
As financial need is a consideration, we strongly encourage you to file the FAFSA, if applicable. The FAFSA can be filed as soon as possible after October 1st.
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- City of Chicago high school graduate
- Received a high school G.P.A. of at least a 2.7
- Currently enrolled as a full-time student at DePaul University
- Demonstrate leadership skills
- Demonstrate a commitment to social justice
- Satisfactory completion of essay questions
- First-generation college students are encouraged to apply
In an effort to provide support to our students at DePaul University, the Office of Multicultural Student Success is committed to providing academic assistance through our Scholarship Status Letters. In addition, by completing the application for this scholarship you are authorizing the Office of Multicultural Student Success and the scholarship foundations to review your financial and academic records to assess your application.
The deadline for application submission online must be no later than May 10, 2020 11:59:59 PM Central Standard Time.
